I have been listening to The Quiet Village Podcast for about a year now. I always look forward to the new episodes. Every episode has a great set of exotica, tiki, and lounge music. There are also great interviews.

Though I totally agree with what you say about the school of tiki Daytona Beach represent I do believe that it is still a valid form of the original tiki bars that once pervaded the entire country. Though Daytona Tiki Finder is mostly a tourist's guide to Daytona Bars I am noticing a swing back to the old classical style once found in almost every state in the country. Without defending the Beachside/Caribbean/Jimmy Buffet school of tiki I must point out that arguably , this is a valid extention of what the original tiki bars where all about.

This type of place is some peoples first exposure to Tiki Culture and often will give people an easy to digest first exposure to what Tiki Culture is all about! Though Tiki Bar purists may not like every bar listed, I think there is a little something for every level of Tiki enthusiast.

Agreed, the modern bars don't hold up. But there's still Julian's, Aku Tiki Traders & the Aku Tiki Inn. At least you can look around and enjoy what once was.

Not to get all technical here, but all these places are of the Florida beachside/Caribbean/Jimmy Buffet school of tiki. What they call tiki huts really should be called Chicki huts because they certainly more resemble what the Seminoles built in the Everglades than anything else. The music you hear will be loud rock and roll and don't even get me started on the cocktails! You can't go more than 100 feet anywhere beachside in the state of Florida without hitting a place like those mentioned on this web site. Nothing to see here. Please move along.

well, it's probably worth saving, but I doubt I'll shed to many tears if it closes. I found the Tonga Room to be a big disappointment when I visited there from the East Coast.
The drinks were great, but the food was merely ok -- the saimin particularly bad, seemingly made by someone who had never eaten the real thing and had only read a description of the dish.
The really big "fail" of this joint, from the perspective of a tiki afficionado, was the "entertainment", the music. It was NOT even remotely tiki oriented. It was neither exotica, lounge, nor tropical. I think a nice mix of Dean Martin, Martin Denny, and Auntie Genoa would have worked well in the place. Alas, they only played stupid pop crap from some forgettable recent decade.
So my hope is that, if the Tonga Room is to be saved at all, that it can be really renovated into a true tiki haven.

I really had a great experience the ambiance is unique and beautiful. The food was deliciouse and the drinks were great. The waiter was very polite and prompt. I ordered the soup and then the beef fajitas cause the waiter had sugggested them and i was blown away. And all the games and great view i had a blast. THANKS

Love my Hula Girl! I love the colors and I love the blue drink, Bikini Bling, which is coconut flavored. It makes me feel as if I'm on the beach. I also love midori, so my 2nd favorite Hula Girl is Wild Wahine. I would definitely recommend.

I first tried these a few years ago when throwing a Hawaiian Themed party. They were a huge hit! It seemed like the guys really liked the Mai Tai's and the women leaned towards the Wild Wahine and Sunset Sensation. I have been hooked ever since. In fact, a lot of my friends have them at their parties now. I think they taste best when they are extremely cold. I like to blend them with ice, margarita style. One of my girlfriends likes to mix the flavors too. I have seen them at a few events as well and the line is always very long with other people who seem to love them as well! I would definately recommend :)

Sorry to hear that. I can tell you by experience that when a bunch of people are hitting a server at one time, it's practically impossible for the system to get an exact count and turn off access when people are moving from order to shopping cart pages. I had the same thing happen to me with Space Shuttle launch tickets last month.

Why not call the manager and complain instead of posting on a random blog. If the food and drinks are good but you had bad service, you can alway get another server or get Danielle trained better. Call them at (941) 378-3900

I placed my order within two minutes after 6pm, and received a confirmation email timestamped 6:05, yet got an email today saying that my order had not been in time and that I would not in fact receive the mugs.
